The commercial logic is straightforward. Junction boxes are low-value, high-volume, and bulky — the worst possible profile for long-distance shipping. A 40HQ container of finished steel boxes carries a great deal of air. The same container filled with steel coil carries raw material for many times that output. Once local demand crosses a certain threshold, importing finished boxes stops making sense.
He did not walk to the press first. He walked to the raw material rack and asked to see the steel coil certificate. This is the mark of an experienced buyer. A metal junction box manufacturing machine can only be as consistent as the strip it is fed. He checked coil thickness tolerance, surface condition, and whether the material on the rack matched the specification we had quoted for the trial run.
Second stop: the die storage area. He asked how many sets of junction box progressive die stamping tooling we keep, who designs them, and whether they are made in-house or outsourced. His reasoning was sound — in this business the press is the durable asset, but the die is the consumable that determines your real cost per box. A supplier who cannot service dies locally leaves the buyer stranded after year two.
Only then did he ask us to power up the line.

The three-in-one unit uncoils the steel, flattens residual curvature, and feeds a precisely metered strip length into the press on every stroke. This single unit is where most cheap lines quietly cut cost. If the straightener cannot fully remove coil set, every box that follows will show a slight twist that only becomes visible when your customer tries to mount a cover plate flush against a wall.
Our visitor did the practical test: he asked us to stop the line mid-run, pulled a fed strip off the die, and laid it on a surface plate. Flat. He did it a second time twenty minutes later, after the machine had warmed up. Still flat. That repeat check, warm versus cold, is something we rarely see buyers do — and it is exactly the right test.
The forming heart of the line is a progressive die mounted on an open-type double-point press. Compared with a single-point press, the double-point design distributes force across two connecting rods, which keeps the slider level under off-centre loads — and junction box blanks, with their asymmetric knockout patterns, are almost always an off-centre load.
Control is via PLC and touch screen, with imported double solenoid valve control enabling three modes: inch, single stroke, and continuous. Pneumatic balance cylinders counterweight the slider and upper die, reducing impact, noise, and the play between connecting rod and slider.
